The most wonderful Inn in the U.S. - Jupiter, FL

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

My husband and I have recently returned from spending our 45th Wedding Anniversary with Bonnie, Terri, and Bonnies’s sister, Diane, at the Alexander Homestead in St. Augustine, Florida. I no longer remember how many times we have visited Bonnie’s wonderful and luxurious B & B. We have been returning as often as possible for some years now. The house is always most inviting in a very familiar and comforting way. The house is quite Victorian in nature, and, you really feel you are getting away from the “Florida look”. Everything is clean and in its place which really makes you feel like you’re coming home, without the everyday tasks and drudgery. The rooms are all well kept and each has its own personality. We especially love the Alexandria room, partly because our granddaughter’s name is Alexandria, but mostly because it feels like a mini house, space of your own, not just a room. It has a beautiful working fireplace, a jaccuzzi tub in the bath, and its own private front porch. It is so much more than just a room.

Breakfast is a delightful affair - held in the formal dining room. It sets the tone for your entire day in town. We are always greated by Bonnie and Terri’s smiles, and sometimes Bonnie’s sister, Diane stops in to chat.

We usually try to visit during the week, as we don’t care much for the weekend crowds. It’s much quieter, and we find we can come and go as we like.

This trip was especially meaningful for us as it was our 45th Anniversary. Our son, and our friends called Bonnie, talked with her, and Bonnie took over making arrangements for a carriage to pick us up at the B & B, show us around the Olde Town, then drop us off at The Casa Monica Hotel, where Bonnie had made arrangements for a surprise dinner from our friends at 95 Cordova. There is nothing Bonnie will not do for you. That to us, is the real meaning of Bed and Breakfast, not whether you like the decor, or if someone laughs a little too loudly. It’s the care and concern that goes into making your stay perfect.

I believe I have said before, my husband and I have stayed in B & B’s all over this country. Some older, some newer, but none so inviting. In this day and age, when people criticize and complain so readily, the Inn provides solace to us. If there is ever a problem, Bonnie takes care of it immediately. You never have to ask twice. She is on call 24/7. Nothing is too much trouble! A new Petite Chateau has just been added to the Inn and we are looking forward to staying in it. Bonnie’s sister, Diane, also has a beautiful cabin on a mountain in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, and we were priviledged to be able to rent it for a week right after Thanksgiving. The care that Bonnie has for her house and guests is also very obvious in Diane’s cabin. This entire family is totally commited to the comfort and care of their guests. We will be returning to both the Inn and the Cabin as soon as possible.

It was more than we expected. Our hostess was very friendly and helpful during our stay. The shared guest rooms and our private bedroom were tastefully decorated and very warm and inviting and very clean. Not only was our hostess friendly; she was an awesome cook. The location of the Inn was perfect and within walking distance to the shops, fine restaurants and attractions. We enjoyed waking up and being able to walk out onto our own private screened-in porch. We highly recommend the Alexander Homestead B & B on your upcoming visit to St. Augustine.

This B&B is the prototype of what a B&B should be. Very nice rooms, clean, convenient to local attractions, nice amenities, good breakfast, adequate parking and a gracious hostess.

THEE BEST! Alexander Homestead was an amazing experience!

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

We stayed for the 3 night package.

This was our first time at a Bed & Breakfast and were excited for the experience after hearing so many good things from others.

Our room was spotless, elegant & clean with every ammenity we could imagine. We stayed in the Lady Grace which was cozy & romantic! We saw all the rooms and they too were just breathtaking!
The house and grounds itself were so whimsical, very very well maintained & magical. We enjoyed our time on the swing on the front porch!

Bonnie & her staff go out of the way to make sure your every request has been met as much as possible. They do not miss a trick!

Our “yummy & filling” breakfast each morning was served in the wonderful dining room and each meal was amazing! And by candlelight! We had a great group of fellow visitors which we enjoyed having morning chats with before we each went off for the day on a new journey!

We were married, we eloped, during our stay in the parlor and utilized one of the wedding packages, thru her website, which was a great bargain and covered everything. Bonnie, herself, performed our ceremony. She handles everything very personal & professional… It was just perfect & intimate and we were very very pleased with the service.

Don’t forget to ask Bonnie about the Raintree restaurant and the private car service to and from the restaurant… this was a great local restaurant which we recommend!

The Inn itself sits back 3 short blocks from the main drag in St. Augustine, maybe a 5 minute easy safe walk, so it was nice to stroll home daily thru the Victorian Houses in the neighborhood to our Inn but yet be so close to all the excitement when needed!

We also recommend Ghost & Graveyard’s ghost tour… we did 3 Ghost Tours on our trip, by far this one was the best!

Bonnie, thanks for the wonderful memories, we can’t tell you enough how magical it was and we will see you next year!

I recommend the Alexander Homestead to anyone looking for a fantastic, romantic getaway and a bit of pampering!

Warm, welcoming, wonderful

A beautiul place. We stayed for a weekend and wish it could have been a week. Our room was on the second floor, with a real fireplace, which we used every night. (It was chilly!) We also had a private porch overlooking the street where we would sit and have coffee in the mornings. Loved the furnishings - you really felt at home. Some nice touches, such as wine and after-dinner drinks set up in the hallway, a fridge with beer and soda, and even a big stack of DVD movies to watch. Comfy bed, too, as evidenced by my husband’s late-afternoon naps accompanied by loud snoring. Luckily I had the tub in the bathroom to soak in during that time.

The location was perfect; a couple minute stroll to downtown, and a quiet, tree-lined street. Bonnie is a super lady who can cook up a storm. My breakfasts since I’ve been home have been pretty disappointing, I must admit.

Overall, a first-rate bed and breakfast. I’ve been to some beautiful ones across the country (New England, especially) and I’d rate this one up there with those. Can’t wait to come back and stay for longer than just two days.

Some Highs - Too Many Lows

Great location to stroll to historic sites. 2nd Floor Bedroom appeared very nice with great king-sized bed. Problems appeared that a $200.00 per night stay should not have. Heavy dust under bed & furniture and on curtains/windows; tiny bathroom with peeling wallpaper & a shower/tub with mildew and stains. Rear exterior stairs with burned out lights making evening sojourns difficult. Breakfast well presented, but ordinary. Management tried to correct some problems, but this B & B is not a keeper.

Absolutely Great Experience

This was a perfect B & B. Our room was on the second floor and we had our own porch to sit out on and to have coffe and a glass of wine in the early evening. The street was so quiet, but we just a couple of minutes from the downtown area. Bonnie provided us with restaurant reviews, suggestions as to what to do, and was a wonderful hostess. Her breakfasts were excellent and we so enjoyed visiting with her other guests. It was so wonderful! Can’t think of one negative thing to say. We’ve stayed in a lot of B & B’s and this is a top one.

Loved Alexander Homestead

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

My wonderful husband and I chose the Alexander Homestead for our wedding and honeymoon based on their website. I have to say that it was exactly what we expected. The home is wonderful and inviting. It is very easy to feel at home there. The entire house if full of beautiful antiques that really take you back in time. The furnishings are just wonderful.

We were greeted at the door by Bonnie, who is a great host. She showed us to our room, confirmed the plans for our romantic wedding, gave us maps of St Augustine along with recommendations of the best restaurants and attractions.

Our wedding was in the parlor and it was very romantic. We left everything in the hands of Bonnie and every detail was just perfect. She even prepared the top layer of our wedding cake for the trip home and gave us directions on just how to preserve it for our anniversary.

I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our trip, but let me conclude by saying that we will be going back every year to celebrate our anniversary in this magical place.

Wonderful B&B

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

This was a wonderful B&B. Bonnie the owner was so nice and accommodating. It was our first visit to St. Augustine and she gave us restaurant recommendations (which were fabulous) and a map of the area with high points.

The room was beautiful with a front porch and rocking chairs. I was up early and had my coffee on the porch. I can’t even tell you how relaxing it was to get away from the noise of the city and just have an hour to myself with a good book and hot coffee.

The breakfast was delicious and the company (the other guests) were so great to talk to and get to know. We could have talked for hours.

Thanks to Bonnie and her staff for a wonderful, relaxing weekend in her beautiful city. We will definitely be back!!

How do you possibly describe such a beautifully charming place that seems straight from a fairytale?

My husband took me here to celebrate my last birthday in my 20’s (not to reveal my age) this past October. I will save you the details of my trip step-by-step and just focus on the important!
#1 Bonnie is amazing! From our arrival to our departure she was nothing short of charming, helpful, and over all a fabulous host. If I could make one suggestion to you-don’t be late for breakfast!! Breakfast (her cinnamon biscuit thing) was my favorite!! I enjoyed meeting everyone and hearing the stories as to why they were there.

#2 Take a second and enjoy the home. I am a collector of antiques and Bonnie’s home is beautiful to say the least. If you aren’t big into “everything old” grab a fresh bake goodie (they are always downstairs on the buffet) and relax on the porch. Just for 5 minutes. The scenery and overall feel of the place just cannot be put into words.

#3 Follow Bonnie’s suggestions on places to eat. She never led us in the wrong direction. There are some great places to enjoy that you will miss if you are not looking for them.

Overall I loved the whole experience. Though we travel quite frequently and 95% of the time we stay in fast paced hotels that know you buy a room number and see dollar signs every time you walk past the counter, this place was a nice calming change to our “norm”. We will be back, but this time I am calling ahead and requesting more cinnamon biscuits!

Alexander Homestead is a premier St. Augustine bed and breakfast resort, through the picturesque front porch from the old fashioned garden walkway you can hear strains of classical music and spy a small book of Emily Dickinson's poetry in the formal living room that is rich with antiques and romance.

The homestead has become Bonnie Alexander's sanctuary, where her guests return time and again to unwind from another time and place and slip into the sensual tranquility of the Alexander Homestead,
St. Augustine's most romantic bed and breakfast.
