Wonderful

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

We have just returned from our trip to the Alexander Homestead Bed and Breakfast in St. Augustine,Fl. Our stay with Bonnie was wonderful. The House was beautiful. We had a second floor room with our own entrance that was great. The homemade breakfast each morning was perfect. The B&B is located just a few blocks from historic St. George street so getting around the city was very easy. Our trip was for our wedding, and Bonnie handled all of the details. We couldn’t have asked for more and will definately be back.

My First Bed and Breakfast

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

As a surprise my husband arranged a stay at Alexander Homestead Bed and Breakfast. I was a little leery at first, we have never stayed at one before. Well if you want comfort, good food and a home away from home this is the place to go. There is nothing that we wanted for, comfy beds, robes, fresh bubble bath everyday. I am a smoker and what was great about this is the rooms have porches and our’s was screened (in Florida nessary). If you are a smoker you will understand the importance of this feature. I would highly recommened the Alexander Homestead. And we will sure to be back.

Everything we wanted for our stay

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Just got back last night from three days in the city. We chose the Alexander Homestead based on the consistently excellent reviews, and it did not disappoint. Bonnie provides a wonderful experience. The home is lovely.

What did we like the best? Well, we parked our car in their lot and walked to places we wanted to see. Everything seemed to be within a 3-6 block walk of the inn. On the first night, Bonnie arranged to have a van pick us up for very pleasant dinner at Raintree. We’d certainly recommend it. The shuttle service is free, and a nice treat after a bottle of wine. By the way, Le Pentola is a great restaurant on Charlotte St., especially if the weather is as nice as ours and dining in an intimate and romantic courtyard is something you’d enjoy.

Back to the inn…we chose the Queen Anne Room. It was a close call, but we really enjoyed the second floor porch with a swing, a great place to relax with a glass of wine or juice after a day of sightseeing. Located on a quiet tree-lined residential street, we found it quiet, with only the sounds of birds and squirrels in the morning. Breakfasts were nicely presented (loved her homemade granola), and different daily.

All in all, a great stay and a definite recommendation.

We loved it!!

We loved it! The service and hospitality is the best. The room was beautiful and the breakfast, wow, like no other we’ve ever had. Bonnie, the owner and innkeeper is an amazing person. She is friendly and makes you feel right at home. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to all our friends.

Nice stay

We stayed in the Victorian room last year (August 2005). The owner, Bonnie, is very attentious and was available whenever we needed anything. It was my wife’s birthday and Bonnie made a wonderful cake, which we shared with other guests. The breakfast is wonderful with very delicious and exquisite dishes.

The property is well-located (walking distance from downtown and main attractions).
The only reason why I don’t rate it excellent is because I think the Victorian room bathroom needed some remodeling.

Overall, the stay was great.

Warm and Cozy

This past weekend we stayed at the Alexander Homestead Bed and Breakfast in St. Augustine, Florida. This was our first time at a bed and breakfast and we loved it. The website is excellent and very detailed. I knew just what to expect. All of the guests were very friendly. The location is quiet but just 3 short blocks to walk to the historic area near St. George St. Bonnie, was the innkeeper. As soon as we arrived she said she had been waiting for us. She showed us our room, which was so bright and had a private porch(Queen Anne’s room). She also had beverages and cordials upstairs if we wanted any. The breakfast was all homemade. Delicious. We would return as well as recommend this place to our friends. Again the website gives full details about the house, what it has to offer and great pictures.

What’s To Love? Everything!

After many stays in St. Augustine at various hotels and bed & breakfasts we discovered the place that is a must-return, the Alexander Homestead Bed and Breakfast. Let’s start with price. Bonnie has placed great prices on her rooms. Very fair. We stayed in a beautiful room on the second floor. The bed was so very comfortable with pillows to die for. There were two chairs, a dresser, antique writing desk, fireplace, and armoire with a safe enclosed. The porch with our room was enclosed with a screen so you could sit out any time day or night and not be driven crazy by insects. You could smoke if you chose to. There was a wicker rocker, chair, and a small table with two chairs. The bathroom was large with a wonderful tub (plenty large for two), shower, and was all white. The toiletries were all noted to have Alexander Homestead on them. Bedside are chocolates. At night she has cordials available outside the room which included creme de menthe. I am not sure what the other one was but it was delicious. It was nice to relax on the screened in porch with this lovely beverage before retiring. In the morning between 8:00 and 8:15 the coffee service appears outside your room (silver service). Your room has coffee cups and water glasses available for your use. There is a small refrigerator located outside your room which included various soft drinks, water, beer, and small bottles of red and white wine. Of course there are wine glasses available. I have never seen small bottles of wine before but it was a very nice touch. Breakfast proved to be a lively exchange. There was a very interesting lady from Palm Beach who told some of the best stories I have ever heard. It just happened that we were all from different areas in Florida. The food was of course a great topic of conversation. Bonnie has homemade granola to top your dish of fresh fruit and then a French Vanilla Sauce to add. There was orange juice, coffee, and tea if you wish. Saturday morning we had here homemade vegetable quiche, bacon, and Bonnie’s secret biscuits. She would not give up this recipe but I have searched on line and think I can somewhat copy them but I am certain they won’t be as good. Sunday included the granola, fruit, juice, link sausage, and the best french toast you will ever have. The recipes are on her web site. This could be topped with her homemade almond syrup. I must say this was all filling, fresh, and delicious. I had requested a cheese and fruit basket with a bottle of wine and this was set up and all was very good. She kindly made reservations for us at the Raintree Restaurant as well.

Her home is lovingly decorated in Victoriana. Her parlor had music playing all the time very quietly.

I would recommend staying at the Alexander Homestead. I hope to return again, the next time taking my mother who will absolutely love the home and the atmosphere. Thanks to Bonnie and her friendly staff for making this a weekend to remember.

Perfect Place to stay in St. Augustine!

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

I have never stayed at a B&B nor in downtown St. Augustine (I usually stay with friends in the suburbs) but this was the perfect weekend getaway, thanks to Bonnie. She welcomed my wife and I with full hospitality and a beautiful room with a porch. After dinner we sat on the porch drinking wine watching the beautiful St. Augustine night. The morning we were greeted at our door with fresh coffee followed by breakfast with other guests who were also very friendly. The breakfast was fantastic with Bonnie’s home cooking. We did the usually tour of the cities landmarks. My wife was tired from the day so we returned and relaxed in our room and felt contempt with the relaxing surroundings. The next morning we checked out but while the stay was short it was the best getaway we ever had. I will recommend to all my friends. Living in a modern house in FL I rarely get the opportunity to stay in an old house and was like an old movie.

Relaxing Atmosphere

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

There is no words to describe the incredible service Bonnie (the owner) and LaToya (head housekeeper) of Alexander Homestead gives to their customers. It’s no wonder why she has such a large repeat customer base. It offers a homey atmosphere that makes you feel like you have escaped to a more relaxed bygone era. The house is beautifully and carefully decorated with lots of antiques to compliment the vintage charm of the house. The breakfast menu was a huge hit with everyone. Waking up each morning and walking out to the smell of something incredibly delicious cooking in the kitchen was the treat for the day. Alexander Homestead and St. Augustine together brings you the perfect combination for a truly enjoyable vacation spot to enjoy the escape of everyday life. The other couples that were at breakfast each morning shared the same experiences we did so that speaks volumes for Alexander Homestead. That kind of hospitality will keep bringing back more repeat customers just like us.

Alexander Homestead is a premier St. Augustine bed and breakfast resort, through the picturesque front porch from the old fashioned garden walkway you can hear strains of classical music and spy a small book of Emily Dickinson's poetry in the formal living room that is rich with antiques and romance.

The homestead has become Bonnie Alexander's sanctuary, where her guests return time and again to unwind from another time and place and slip into the sensual tranquility of the Alexander Homestead,
St. Augustine's most romantic bed and breakfast.
